Dining Out With Chao Chao?

by

Last week I was lucky enough to be invited to dine at Chao Chao an urban oriental kitchen based in West Bridgford, Nottingham. They have been open for 6 months now and I have been wanting to try it since it opened after my friends started to order take out from their and raving about it. However I jumped to conclusions and didn’t expect to be able to eat anything on the menu, so when I was invited and checked they cater for gluten intolerances I was pleased to hear they have a whole dedicated menu for gluten free dishes.

I took my friend Amanda along with me for a little girls date, she loves food as much as I do and to make my review fair she could try all the things I couldn’t eat. The actual restaurant has a really clean spacious and modern feel and look about it, you can order take out or they have a few tables so you can stay in if you prefer. As a business they pride themselves on offering fresher ingredients and a quick service, they have also been very mindful about the environment ensuring all their packaging is recyclable and even their knifes and forks are biodegradable.

Their passion for the brand and service they are providing is very clear from speaking to the owner and tasting the food, we weren’t sure what to try so they brought out a range of different dishes and sides for us to sample all with lots of flavour. You can even enjoy your Thai Green Curry with a bottle of beer, I won’t lie it was a little hot for me but I’m a lemon and herb kinda gal at Nando’s so you would be best judging that one yourself, I just avoided the chilli’s.

Some of the dishes we tried included –

The sweet and sour chicken (GF) – my personal favourite!

Veg Spring Rolls

China Town Salt and Pepper

Chicken Thai green curry (GF)

Char siu pork buns – Amanda loved these!

Katsu Chicken Curry

Malaysian street food curry (GF)

All their food is free of artificial ingredients and MSG so you won’t get that usual stuffed can’t move, I’m now in a food coma feeling when you have finished eating, which is what usually happens after ordering a takeaway. As well as having gluten free dishes they also have set vegan dishes so there really is something for everyone. At the end of this month they are bringing out a new menu to keep their dishes fresh and appealing, which will include more gluten free and vegan dishes, so I can’t wait to see what they will be.

We left with our loyalty cards and doggy bags full of leftovers for lunch the next day, feeling very satisfied and already planning our next trip. They are also looking to expand in Birmingham, Manchester, Derby and Liverpool so watch this space!
